Provincial Tree Mahat
เปนไมพระราชทานปลูกเพื่อเปนมงคลประจำจังหวัดกาฬสินธุ มีชื่อวิทยาศาสตรวา
“Artocarpus lakoocha Roxb.” อยูในวงศ Moraceae เปนตนไมสูง 15-25 เมตร
ใบเดยี่ วออกเรยี งสลบั รปู ขอบขนาน ปลายแหลม โคนเกอื บมน ใบมขี นสากมอื ทงั้ สองดา น
ใบดก ดอก ออกเปนชอรวม ทรงเกือบกลม ตามซอกใบและปลายกิ่งดอกเปนสีเหลือง

Mahat is a tree that conferred from His Majesty to plant for auspicious for the
Kalasin province. Its scientific name is “Artocarpus lakoocha Roxb.” of the family
“Moraceae”. It grows to be up to 15-25 meters tall. The Mahat tree is a
monocotyledon, whose a single leaf is arranged alternately with a parallel
pattern, a sharp tip, and a base which is almost rounded. Its leaves also have a
hairy surface in both sides and the tree is very bushy. Its flowers are bushy and
almost rounded blooming near its leaves, and the end of flower twig is yellow.
Which blooms in February. Its fruit is rounded and green with a rough skin.
When the fruit gets ripe, its' skin will be yellow. The fully-grown fruit has nearly the same
size as a tangerine. The flesh of fruit is old rose color. Its' fruit is edible with sweet
and sour tastes. There are 4-5 seeds inside. The tree gives fruit in March
and its fruit fully grows in May. Its wood is rough and hard. It is popular for using
in construction and making an instrument. Its bark can be used for making a rope.
Its roots provide a yellow color and can be used to dye clothes. In addition,
the tree can provide a medicinal value. Its heartwood can be boiled for drinking
as an herbal drug for dissolving blood and relieving wie symptoms of gas, wasting
disease, and constipation. Its roots can also be boiled for drinking to treat about
parasitic infections.
